Head Coach - Dan McMaster
For the past decade, Coach McMaster has served as a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies. His responsibilities include coordinating tryouts at each of the Phillies minor league affiliates throughout the year, including pre-draft workouts at FDR & Citizens Bank Park. He can also be found evaluating high school and collegiate players on the diamond year-round in the tri-state area for the Phillies.
Coach McMaster has served as a teacher in the Cherry Hill Public Schools for the past 17 years. During that time, he has coached a variety of sports at the high school level, including football, basketball, and tennis. However, his true passion remains on the diamond. Over the course of the past nineteen years, he has spent each spring coaching high school baseball. Fifteen of those seasons were at the varsity level with the last ten years as the Head Coach of Cherry Hill West.
Over the course of the past decade, Coach McMaster has led the Lions to the NJSIAA playoffs each season, while each of his teams have been ranked in the Top 10 in South Jersey. The Lions have qualified for the prestigious Diamond Classic Invitational Tournament a total of five times during his tenure. Recently, the club has received a Diamond invite in four out of the last six seasons, a feat that can only be made by three other public schools in South Jersey. As spring turns to summer and the high school season drawing to a close, Coach regularly serves as the manager of the Camden County All-Star game and is also the manager of the prestigious Olympic-Colonial Carpenter Cup team. This team is comprised of All-Stars from the highly competitive Olympic and Colonial Conferences and competes in a 16-team, single-elimination tournament against teams from New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Just this past June, the Olympic-Colonial team was able to capture the title of Philadelphia Phillies-sponsored tournament at Citizens Bank Park.
Coach Mac stays in contact with dozens of former players who were fortunate enough to play at the collegiate level. In addition to working several college camps/showcases in the area, this ensures that our ballplayers receive the best, most up-to-date instruction possible. At this time, more than a half-dozen former CHW graduates are playing college ball at schools such as: UMBC, Fordham, LaSalle, Delaware, & TCNJ. The 2019 graduating class of CHW includes another half-dozen players who have already signed their NLI and are excited to continue their playing career at schools such as: Dayton, Rider, FDU, & Felician University.
A two-time basketball state champion and All-State 3rd basemen at Pitman High School, Coach Mac was recently inducted into his High School Hall of Fame. He continued his playing career at the College of William & Mary before a knee injury cut short his career and led to the beginning of his high school head coaching career at Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg, Virginia. Upon returning to South Jersey, Coach McMaster worked for the Tri-State Arsenal and founded Pride Baseball Clinics & Select Teams, which provided small-group and individual training for thousands of ballplayers in the Cherry Hill area. He also served as Head Coach and President of the Cherry Hill American Legion Baseball Program.
In his personal like, Coach Mac resides in Haddonfield with his wife and three children.
